Just a little snippet from Lady of Rain! Enjoy!
The trail was eerily silent, lit only by the moon. The only sounds were the swish of our skis and the sound of our breathing. The night was clear, the trees tall and dark shadows on either side of the path. Our breath came out in clouds, freezing on the scarf I’d found back in Scotland, the cold sneaking beneath my heavy coat. Thank goodness for discount stores- otherwise, we’d be frozen already.
No one spoke for the purpose of preserving our energy, but a sense of determination was in the air. We moved as a pack, our skis swishing in the snow as we followed the path blindly to reach our destination. Home.
